子どもの成長に勝る喜びは無し

今日母の家で、三ヶ月ぶりに会った弟の子で中学三年生の甥っ子の身長が伸びており、とうとう私も追い越されました。しかも約5センチも。

叔父としても、やはり嬉しいです。

甥っ子の足のサイズは、28センチですので、身長もまだまだ伸びそうです。

一方、嫁の実家に帰省している、一つ歳上のわが息子は、私よりまだ3センチほど低く、兄弟のように仲の良い甥っ子に負けたことを知ると、少しばかりあせるかもしれません。

プレッシャーを与えるわけではありませんが、私自身も、息子に早く身長を抜かされたいと思うのでした。

ちなみに脚の長さは、昭和と平成の世代差がハッキリと現れているのか、かなり前に負けてますが…

I met my nephew, who is my younger brother's son and a 3rd grade junior high school student, 

for the first time in 3 months at my mother's house today. I noticed that he has grown taller, actually about 5 centimeters taller than me.

As his uncle, I was very glad to know that.

The size of his feet is 28 centimeters in length, 

so I expect him to grow more and more taller from now on.

On the other hand, my son, who is staying in the house of my parents-in-law at the present and is one year elder than the cousin, is still about 3 centimeters shorter than me. 

If my son knows the growth of his cousin who he is very friendly like his younger brother with, he might feel a little frustration. 

I never intend to put pressure on my son, I am hoping he will grow taller than me earlier. 

If that tells you anything, lengths of my son's legs had become much longer than me quite a few years ago due to the difference of generations between "Showa" and "Heisei"....
